nabuangan(opening)

The lake(taken August 2007)

The continuous rain last February 2008 caused flash floods in the province of Eastern Samar. In Sulat, the overflowing of water from the up streams found its way in buangan or an opening in this lake. The ground and the trees that surrounds the lake was washed out by the pressure of the water flowed through it, opening the small body of water to the pacific ocean.

The people from the area said if not of the nabuangan, the town of Sulat would be under water too, that time. It has been told also by the old folks of the town that the same spot served as buangan(opening) too, decades ago when the town was hit by a typhoon. So for many years it formed to a stream, and many more years the formation of land around the river transforming it to another body of water which is the lake.

this used to be the lake, now a river(august 2008)

At present the local government unit(LGU) proposed a project in the area. The plan is to build a wall that will  sort of guide the flow of the water coming from the mountains when there is heavy down pour. This will still serve its purpose as bubwangan or the nabuangan.

because of the buangan(opening) boats could pass through the stream
