desert safari

It was a long drive from dubai to al ain. We rode on a 4x4 truck from the vienna tours. First stop:the palace of one of the sheiks(forgot the name), there was nothing much to see except the peacocks along the the road and the gate to the palace of course. Then we went for another 15 minutes ride until we saw the golden dunes of the desert. We had another stop in a souvenir shop, I had an ice cream, exactly what I needed in the scorching heat of the sun. In this stop our driver adjusted the tires for the dune driving..Then comes the most exciting part of the trip, the dune bashing. We started from the low slopes, getting higher and unpredictable and scary. "Just shout"(to get rid of the fear) our driver told us, and that we did..so since we were an all girls group, expectedly the loudest laughter and shouts were coming from our car.. and we get noticed. What makes dune bashing more exciting than a roller coaster ride, cuz u cannot predict the height and how steep the dunes formed. And if ur lucky enough (like us) to have a driver who is into the challenge of going for the steepest slope, the better.Another reason why we were lucky to have the driver, cuz he extended more time driving in the dunes. It was such a thrill.
I always love watching sunset ( it all goes back when i waited for the millenium sunset). Watching the sun fades into the horizon with the golden dunes in the background was just splendid.
It was already dark when we headed for the camp. There were other things to do before entering the camp. We tried the camel ride. It was pretty scary because of the height and again 1 unpredictable move of the mammal, it could go wrong. The last part of the trip was the camp site. We started going around and checking the booths. Except for the souvenir booth, we tried almost everything. We tried dressing up the traditional arab clothes, abaya for the me. We also had our henna tattoos, and the apple flavored sheesha(hubbly bubbly).

Dinner time- again lucky we had the driver cuz he made it a point to find us so we could go first in the buffet dinner. There was a wide variety of choices from arab to indian to western cuisine. The barbecue was good. They also served tea afterwards. We enjoyed the scrumptious dinner under the the pitch black sky in the middle of the desert. After dinner we had time to relax and meet some people around. Few minutes later, lights were off, music came on as the belly dancer entered and showed her hips and belly moves. She asked us to join her in the center..it was fun. End of the belly show, end of the desert safari trip. To experience some of the arab culture in 1 day..awesome.
