CHRISTMAS 2010

Its Christmas time again...one thing that excites me about this season is our themed Christmas lunch in Lagro.
I would be the one busy preparing the menu. Well, it had been always simple and economical preparation, for it was just five of us who will satiate over the food.

 what we got..

Our theme this year is blue and silver. So for centerpiece I used blue and silver Christmas balls piled in a silver basket. Then I spread crunches chocolate bars and silver Christmas trimmings all over the table.

the food..

For appetizer we had ham and cheese and some "kakanin" (ube jam and suman). Then for the main dish we had pork steak with buttered mixed veggies... and for dessert I made a fruit salad.

opening of gifts..

Arron was delighted in the opening of his gifts. At the age of 2, he already appreciates what he gets. This year my gift for him was a set of books.  Arron loves books. I gave him a toy story book cos I want to introduced him to my fave woody and buzz lightyear.  He loved it.  I got flip-flops ,bath stuffs and some kitchen wares from mama Inda and ate Lisa.

We missed our parents and other siblings who were not around but then it was a happy 2010 Christmas celebration and looking forward to next christmas lunch in lagro.

SULAT RIVER

salog..is the waray word for river and refers to my favorite spot and will always be my forever favorite place to go to...and it is just at the back of our residence in Sulat.
This is where I spent most of my childhood..I remember I would sometimes have an early swim before going to school.  Then after school, would again dived here with friends.  Then weekends the kids of the town are mostly here to swim and I was one of them.  Lots of happy childhood memories happened here..how can I forget the busu busuhay(diving) from the breakwater..the busuhay from the tulay(bridge)..tarabok(to swim across the river) just going along with the current of the water and or having some patawans(plastic containers use as life vests)..or sometimes we do borrow bangka for boating.. or just be with cousins or friends in the breakwater wall.. and most of all how can I forget ..this is where I first learned how to swim...

Another time...
now that I am grown up..the salog serves another purpose to me now..I no longer swim in the river..I no longer do the busubusuhay..but I still go sit in the breakwater wall to relax..to be with nature..and be peaceful..I remember watching the last sunset of the century here(dec 31, 1999) with friends (michelle and jasmin)..this is more of my solitude now..

In this life..wherever I go..i will still keep comin back to sulat and to sit in the sulat river wall after all this is my all time favorite place..

PAPA AND MAMAs 2010 homecoming

The initial plan, it was only papa and mama who will be taking a vacation in the Philippines. But things happened, like the death of Annas father, which led to kuya Brian and family coming along too. The family could be grieving over the death of kuya Brians father in law, but we were ecstatic too with the thought of the kids coming to manila.

It was the first time of Ian,Enyan and Bibo who was still a baby, in the Philippines. It was our first time to see the kids face to face. Before this, we would only see their pictures sent to us by Anna, their mom. And just like in their pictures, these kids are really adorable in person. Ian and Aaron hit it off well in an instant. They both love to play. Enyan was more of the reserve type. She was a sweet little girl, very soft spoken and has accent. She would sometimes play with the boys but remain to be prim in her actions. Bibo was a cutie-pie. She delighted us with her baby laughter.

Unfortunately Kuya Brian and the kids got sore eyes during their stay in the Philippines. So the plan of going to Sulat did not push through. Their two weeks were mostly spent in Tarlac. Good enough that they were able to go to a Halloween costume party in Manila.

When we(me pa and ma), came back from the province, kua Byan and the kids were well already. It was few more days before they leave for US,  we have little time to go out of town, so it was mostly going to the malls for the kids in the city.

The send off party for papa, mama, kuya Brian, Anna and the kids was a simple dinner in Lagro.  Cousins both sides were present. Uncle noling and auntie Malu were present, as well as uncle Agus and auntie Dayday who were in the city that time came also. Ate Elna who was about to fly back to Taiwan dropped by for dinner too. Same with Kuya Bebot. Ate Milette and family who resides southern part of the city, came understandably late.  It was years before kuya Byan came home so it was first time for some to meet Anna.  Jorings' group was present too, from her family to her mother in law and friends.

Again it always good to have your family around. We value the moment ..big thing!

It is Christmas 2009. Our Christmas in Lagro was on the day itself..the 25th.  So I prepared lunch for us.

Whats in the table?

We had tempura, chips, and fried kangkong leaves for appetizer.
Main dish were sweet ham brought by Nadin, barbecue, lumpia, and beef.
Nadin brought assorted sweets too for dessert..We had fruit salad, cakes, leche flan and a lot more.

opening of gifts

After lunch is the opening of gifts..I had gift certificates, a nice top and some bodyshop products, things I received. Arron got mini pool from me and pajamas from his uncle Banad..and more clothes from his uncle Byron auntie Ethel and cousins Pau and Phoebe.
Aaron at 1 starting to learn to appreciate his gifts.  He was curious of gifts and always smiling while holding on to his gifts. But it was his mama who was more excited receiving the gifts for her Aaron.
